Notre Dame opened up their books yesterday and released their federal tax return for this. The tax return showed that former Patriots offensive coordinator and Irish head coach Charlie Weis was the highest paid employee in the athletic department last year. That’s right, Weis made more money than current coach Brian Kelly, men’s basketball coach Mike Bray and athletic director Jack Swarbrick. 

As part of his buyout agreement with the university, Weis made $2,054,744 last year. Conversely, Kelly made $ 1,624,730 last year. That’s unbelievable. Weis and his agent might have negotiated the greatest buyout in coaching history. Seriously. Weis gets paid to sit on his ass and do nothing nowadays. He’s been out of coaching the last two years after leaving Kansas. The guy is a perennial program destroyer yet somehow he’s making $2 mil a year. 

Notre Dame prints money so paying a buyout to a former coach is not a problem for them. They can afford to pay Weis.  The issue is the fact that they are wasting money on a loser like him. It just goes to show you how much money some of these athletic departments make and how much money they waste. The money circulating in sports today is out of control and this proof of that.
