5 Observations from Boston College Spring Practice

March 18, 2024

Boston College held their fourth spring practice on Saturday morning inside the Fish Field House. After three practices, the Eagles held their first padded practice under Bill O’Brien and it did not disappoint.  Here are five observations from practice.  1. O’Brien sets the tone: New Eagles coach Bill O’Brien set the tone early in practice. He pushes the players and the tempo of practice. He walked around between the two…

Sights & sounds from Day 4 of BC spring ball

March 16, 2024

CHESTNUT HILL – Quite a bit of buzz on campus Saturday morning. Nice weather, women’s lax hosting ND in a Top 10 showdown, what felt like dozens of recruits on hand. Oh, and the shoulder pads were back on inside Fish Field House. BC had another very productive practice – the fourth of 15 this spring – for roughly two hours. It’s hard not to be encouraged with what’s going…

Sights & sounds from BC’s third spring practice

March 15, 2024

CHESTNUT HILL – Well, this is fun. For the third straight practice to open up the Bill O’Brien era, it felt like an NFL training camp over inside Fish Field House. It’s only March, but the Boston College product is already much different. Chatting with coaches and others on hand, even they’ve been impressed with how BC looks over the first week. Here’s everything I saw during a very competitive…

Former Patriots TE coach Will Lawing explains why he made the move to college

March 13, 2024

Image courtesy of New England Patriots Some college coaches may look at former Patriots tight ends coach Will Lawing and wonder if he has a screw loose. These days, leaving the NFL to enter the wild, Wild West that is college football is a pretty risky decision. The amount of college coaches flowing to the NFL because they can’t stand what the college product is turning into is growing rapidly,…

Now a veteran leader, Kendall excited for what’s ahead at BC

March 13, 2024

Image courtesy of BC Athletics Former Nobles star lineman Drew Kendall isn’t a young pup at the D1 level anymore. Now a redshirt junior, Kendall is viewed as a veteran leader who legitimately leads the offense (he does have the ball in his hand first every play). With a new regime taking over the program, the buy-in from guys like Kendall and others is huge early on in this process….

Sights & sounds from Day 2 of BC spring ball

March 13, 2024

Let’s get right into it. The vibe around Chestnut Hill is much different these days and it feels like an NFL coach is running the show based on structure and just how much the Eagles are getting accomplished in two hours of work. -Wide receiver group was the first one out of Alumni jogging over to Fish at 8:40 -TC sprinted out ahead of the rest of the QB group…

What stood out from Day 1 of BC spring ball?

March 11, 2024

-Very different structure already and a more business-like atmosphere as opposed to the loud, club-like vibe Hafley had. There was no coach on the microphone yelling instructions and music was a normal volume as background noise. -The offense was out on the field at like 8:40 and began doing some light tempo work right around 9:00. The first offense (led by TC) and second offense (rotation of QB’s) each ran…

Business-like approach to Day 1 of spring practice for BC

March 11, 2024

CHESTNUT HILL – Night and day. It’s the only way I can explain the first day of BC spring ball under Bill O’Brien compared to Jeff Hafley. Now, in fairness, we usually only got to see stretching and a few indy drills with Hafley. On Monday, O’Brien opened up practice (and will continue to do so) for two + hours. Right from the jump, the structure was different and the…

O’Brien emphatically addresses importance of recruiting New England

March 9, 2024

FOXBOROUGH – The idea that Boston College can’t compete with the elite of the elite in college football may be somewhat accurate, just don’t tell Bill O’Brien that. As a local guy who watched BC teams gain respect nationally over the years with a good amount of gritty, local players, O’Brien knows in today’s world of NIL and players wanting to get the bag before they’re even on campus it’s…
