Rams Coach Jim Fleming knew that his team would be at a size and depth disadvantage against the Minnesota Golden Gophers heading into today’s game and he was right. It proved to be the difference in Minnesota’s 48-0 win.

Former UNH quarterback Max Brosmer completed 24-of-30 passes for 271 yards and two touchdown passes in the win. The Gophers took awhile to get going offensively. Minnesota only led 3-0 at the end of the first quarte. URI coach Jim Fleming says the defense kept the Rams in the game.

“Takeaways is a huge piece of the game and we were unable to do it. But I was really proud of the defense for just keeping us in the game for as long as they could,”

Minnesota took control of the game in the second quarter. Brosmer led two long scoring drives that chewed up nearly 15 minutes and kept the URI offense off the field for most of the second quarter. The Gophers led 17-0 at the half.

Brosmer would throw two third quarter touchdown passes to Cristian Driver and Le’Meke Brockington to extend the Gophers lead to 31-0 going into the fourth quarter.

Minnesota would put the game away in the final frame with a field goal, a 25 yard pick six by Jack Henderson and an 8 yard touchdown pass from back-up quarterback Drake Lindsey to Tyler Williams.

The Gophers held the Rams offense to 135 yards of total offense. Quarterback Devin Farrell completed 6-of-18 for 76 yards and two interceptions. He was replaced by Hunter Helms who 7-of-12 for 41 yards and an interception.

It was a forgettable performance from a team coming off a big win last week against Holy Cross. The Rams will look to bounce back next week at home when they host Campbell.
