UMass Head Coach Joe Harasymiak and his staff have completely revamped the Minutemen roster this off-season and the rebuild has continued this week with several potentially impact high school players committing to the program.

Cornerback Corey Warner out of Dupont Manuel is the most recent commit on Monday. Warner has good size at 5’11 180 and is ranked as a three star recruit. NFL Academy offensive lineman and Finnish native Samu Suominen who stands at 6’4 305 is a member of the 2025 Class also committed. He had no offers last summer. He has good length and is athletic. He will need some fundamental work but has upside. 

The two join talented wide receiver Kai Owens, a 6’2 165 wide receiver out of Carmel Catholic in Illinois who committed on Monday. Owens has good size, speed and physical upside. He can play the X or the Z receiver. 

Defensive line was also an area of emphasis and two Pennsylvania defensive lineman should help fill the void. Samuel Mulbah who stands at 6’3 260 and interior defensive lineman Yendor Mack both committed over the weekend. Both players were unranked by 24/7 but when you watch them on tape, they have good size and upside. The two will be joined by the Salisbury School’s Cooper Long who is also unranked but a very good player who could also develop as an offensive lineman at 6’5 270. 

Perhaps the two biggest commitments over the weekend were from Lawrence Academy tight end Matthew Tybor and St. Peter’s Prep (NJ) quarterback Tyler Bell. Tybor is a stud at 6’4 240 and could make an instant impact. I am not quite sure how he wasn’t ranked by 24/7. Bell has good size at 6’1 190 and is athletic. He looks like he will be a good fit in Mike Bajakian’s offense. 

Overall, it was a great weekend for the program. Harasymiak wants to strike a balance between using the portal and high school recruiting. He and his staff did that with this class.
