Bedford’s Mekhi Volcy discusses commitment to BC

When you think Division 1 recruiting, you probably don’t think much about Bedford High School.

But, when Boston College comes calling, all bets are off.

Under-the-radar linebacker and soon-to-be senior Mekhi Volcy hasn’t had a ton of attention for football after missing time last year with an injury, but he’s done enough to catch the eyes of Bill O’Brien, Jonathan DiBiaso and the rest of the Eagles’ staff. So much so, that Volcy announced his commitment to the program on Instagram on Wednesday night.

Volcy is an elite basketball player and has also played some wide receiver while wearing the blue and white for the Bucs.

“I chose BC because it is nice and close to my hometown. I’ve always have had interest in the school as a kid growing up in this area,” he said. “Coach O’Brien and the rest of the BC football staff have a good insight for the game and that’s where I see myself improving and getting closer to being the best I can be.

“I had two offers other than BC and had some interest from other schools. When BC offered, I knew it was gonna be the best option for me because of the schools’ great education, location and what the football program has to offer a player on their team.”

Volcy is not only the 19th commit in the class of 2026, but the sixth Massachusetts native to hop on board.

The ‘keeping a fence around New England’ line is one that all 17 D1 coaches in the area have used and will continue to use, but BC is doing an excellent job of balancing both the local and national talent in the first ‘real’ class for this staff since taking the job over a year ago.

Volcy is just another example of the kind of diamonds in the rough this BC staff is on the hunt for and he could be an immediate impact player next season, particularly on defense in the Tim Lewis scheme.
