We recently had a chance to talk to Springfield Central running back Isaiah Rogers. Rogers, one of the top running backs in New England shared with us how he got into football, why he plays running back and he shared his favorite meal, what he listens to pregame and his goals for this season.
Here’s our conversation with Isaiah Rogers.
NEFJ: Talk about your football journey. When did you start playing football? What attracted you to the sport?
IR: “My football journey started when I was young. I was around five years old. I have been playing ever since then. I also played soccer for a little bit at 10 and 11 just to switch things up but I eventually came back to football. I have always been in a football family so that attracted me to the sport.”
NEFJ: When did you start playing running back? What attracted you to the position?
IR: “I started playing back in middle school. I played everywhere. Running back, safety, wide receiver, all the skill positions. I really like playing running back, especially when I started watching Saquon Barkley .”
NEFJ: How much of a role have your coaches and your family played in your development. Why do you think it is important to have that support?
IR: “My coaches and family have played a huge role. Without them, I would not be where I am. The support is important. My mom making a nice meal for me after a long day of workouts and school. They are a huge part of my development and my lifestyle today.”
NEFJ: When you’re not doing anything football related, what do you like to do off the field. Favorite hobbies, activities etc.
IR: “When I am not playing football, I am still playing the game. Like Madden, NCAA, Call of Duty. That kind of stuff. I am inside guy. I really don’t like going outside and going a lot of stuff.”
NEFJ: What is your go to meal? When you crave it, you need to have it.
IR: “My go to meal would probably be…I like Jersey Mike’s sandwiches. I have one next to my house. I walk over there and get a nice sub anytime I want it.”
NEFJ: It is ten minutes before kickoff, what are you listening to get you hyped before you go out and play?
IR: “I don’t really play songs that are upbeat or that get me hyped. I play songs that help me envision making a play. I will play some upbeat songs in the locker room. On my headphones, I’ll play something like Sade just to get me in a relaxed, calm mood.”
NEFJ: What are your personal and team goals for the 2025 season and how do you go about accomplishing them?
IR: “Definitely winning the chip. That’s the most important thing. Getting wins for our team. Doing a lot for my team. I got a lot on shoulders. That is very important to me. I want to rush for 1,000-1,500 yards and help my team win a chip.”
