The Huskies may have found their starting quarterback for the 2026 season and beyond. Freshmen signal caller Kalieb Osborne has officially committed to transfer from Toledo to UConn.
Osborne follows new Huskies head coach Jason Candle, who previously coached Osborne at Toledo and played a pivotal role in his initial recruitment.
Osborne expressed deep gratitude for Candle’s belief in his abilities, citing it as a primary factor in his development and his decision to follow the coaching staff to Storrs. The move strengthens a growing “Toledo-to-Storrs shuttle” as Candle works to reshape the UConn roster with familiar talent.
Osborne’s freshman campaign with the Rockets showcased his versatility, particularly during the late stages of the 2025 season. He appeared in seven games, culminating in his first career start during the Boca Raton Bowl against Louisville. In that game, Osborne passed for 167 yards and a touchdown while adding 77 yards on the ground.
For the season, he totaled 427 passing yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions, along with 282 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. His performance in relief of injured veteran Tucker Gleason highlighted his poise and playmaking ability, though ball security remains a focus for his continued growth as a potential starter.
Standing at 6’3 and weighing 204 pounds, the Pontiac, Michigan native brings a dynamic physical profile to the Huskies’ quarterback room. His recruitment to UConn was also influenced by the presence of Robert Weiner, the former Toledo co-offensive coordinator who joined the Huskies’ staff as assistant head coach.
Osborne’s commitment is a foundational piece for the new coaching staff, providing a high-ceiling athlete who already understands Candle’s system. As the Huskies look to build momentum towards the 2026 season, Osborne is expected to compete for the starting quarterback job.
