Louisville’s demolition of Florida State highlighted a high scoring weekend in college football.
1.Lamar Jackson is the run away favorite to win the Heisman after Saturday’s dominant performance versus Florida State. Jackson is in the drivers seat but its still early.
2. I am not surprised that Louisville whacked Florida State. Both Charlie Strong and Bobby Petrino are tremendous recruiters. Petrino gets as much talent out of Florida as Jimbo Fisher does.
3. North Dakota State beating Iowa is far from a surprise. That being said, I don’t think they should consider making the jump up to the FBS level like some people have intimated. They should stay FCS. Look at some of the programs that have made the jump up and suffered. Idaho and New Mexico State come to mind.
4. Looks like the Buckeyes have officially grown up after Saturday night’s 45-24 win over Oklahoma. They are legit now.
5. Colorado got off to a fast start on Saturday at the Big House but then reality set in. Jabril Peppers took the game over and the Wolverines outscored the Buffs 38-7 the rest of the way.
6. Georgia State gave Wisconsin a run for their money before falling 23-17. The Panthers were 0-2 entering the game.
7. Oklahoma State had a nice bounce back win over Pitt. They needed it after the debacle against Central Michigan.
8. Nick Saban may have exercised his Ole Miss demons but the Rebels are still going to haunt him every time he thinks about the way his much heralded defense played.
9. Mike Riley needed to beat Oregon at home and he did. Sure the Ducks aren’t as good as usual but they are still Oregon and its still a big win for the Big Red.
10. Texas came back to earth after an ugly loss to Cal. I feel the need to remind Longhorn fans that Cal lost to San Diego State the week before.
Overtime
-There will be growing pains for USC coach Clay Helton if he wants to pound the rock and play more physical. USC doesn’t have that type of team right now.
– Michigan State continues to fly under the radar even after beating Notre Dame in South Bend. Sparty is the Rodney Dangerfield of college football.
