The Dime Package: Ten Thoughts from Sunday’s Action

Several high profile injuries at the running back position mar Week 2 of the NFL season.

1.Sunday featured several high profile injuries. The running back position was hit the hardest with Arian Foster, Jonathan Stewart, Ameer Abdullah, Thomas Rawls, Danny Woodhead, Doug Martin and Adrian Peterson all suffering injuries. Its still too early to tell how severe the injuries were but it could be a long day on Monday for several teams.

2. I don’t care how the Patriots spin it. Losing Jimmy Garoppolo hurts, even if its for just one game. Its hard enough to prepare for an opposing team on a short week. Now, Bill Belichick and his staff have to get a rookie quarterback in Jacoby Brissett ready to play on a short week as well.

3. Speaking of rookie quarterbacks. Dak Prescott continues to impress. He didn’t throw a touchdown pass in Sunday’s win over the Redskins but he did rush for a touchdown. Prescott made some clutch throws throughout the game and he spread the ball around. Slot receiver Cole Beasley has especially benefited from playing with Prescott.

4. Looks like the Giants $200 million dollar investment on the defensive side of the ball is paying off. The G-Men have struggled offensively thus far but the defense has been excellent as evident by Sunday’s performance against the Saints.

5. The Texans were able to avenge their 30-0 playoff loss to the Chiefs by beating Kansas City 19-12 but it was far from a clean win. The Texans defense played well but the offense left something to be desired.

6. The Ravens improved to 2-0 after their 25-20 win over the Browns but it was a struggled for B-More. The Ravens did not play well and were lucky to come out of Cleveland with a win. Despite that, I am still going to pump their tires because I still think they’ll be there when the dust settles come January.

7. The Rams are 1-1 despite averaging 4.5 points per game through two weeks. To quote Vince Lombardi: WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON OUT THERE?

8. The Colts are a mess right now. The offense is inconsistent and the defense is non-existent. This is the third straight season that the Colts are starting the season at 0-2. Its not good right now in Indianapolis and one has to wonder if Chuck Pagano survives the season if this keeps up.

9. Calling the Seahawks offensive performance against the Rams putrid is an affront to the word putrid. Seattle stinks offensively and Pete Carroll and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell need to figure things out.

10. The Packers 17-14 loss to the Vikings left me questioning whether or not Mike McCarthy is a good enough coach to lead the Packers back to the Super Bowl. Green Bay has too much talent on the offensive side of the ball to be as inconsistent as they have been the past year.
