Game Rewind: The Boston College offense started strong scoring 29 first half points as the Eagles held on to beat Maryland 36-30 in the Quick Lane Bowl. 

Here are three thoughts from the game.

1. For Whom the Bell Towles: Fifth year senior quarterback Patrick Towles played one of his better  games of the season finishing 10/22 151 yards and two touchdown passes. 

Towles has put up better numbers this season but he managed the offense and led four scoring drives in the first half. Towles still made mistakes at times in this game but he did enough to lead the Eagles to the win.

2. The Eagles Ran “Down Hilliman” B.C came out and established the ground game early with Jon Hilliman. The Eagles ran their staple power and lead plays early and wore down the undersized Terps defense. 

The strong ground game enabled the Eagles to open up a 29-13 half time lead and they never looked back. 

Boston College ran the football 65% of the time this season. It’s no secret what the Eagles want to do. They want to run the football. They did that today.

3. Hanging On For the Win: The Eagles did not play well on either side of the ball in the second half but they did enough to win this game.

Linebacker Matt Milano forced a fumble in the fourth quarter that prevented Maryland from scoring the tying touchdown. From there, the Eagles were able to get another stop and grind the clock out.

It wasn’t easy, but the Eagles found a way to win this game and pick up a much needed bowl win.
