Game Rewind: The Patriots finally got the fast start they were looking for jumping out to an early 20-0. The offense fizzled in the second half but the defense was once again dominate, essentially shutting the Jets offense out.
Here are five thoughts on the game.
1. Patriots start fast offensively: The Patriots finally got off to a fast start offensively scoring the first twenty points. They took their foot off the gas in the second half but it was good to see them finally get off to a strong start offensively. Given how well the Patriots have played defensively, quick starts are important.
2. Defense dominates again: The Patriots defense once again dominated. They did not give up a touchdown and limited the Jets to 134 yards of total offense while sacking quarterback Luke Falk 5 times. It was a dominant performance from a defense that is one of the NFL’s best right now.
3. Annoying miscues: A pick six by Jamal Adams and muffed punt in the end zone by Gunner O highlighted a frustrating second half for the Patriots in which they made a lot of mistakes. It did not sit well with Bill Belichick and it will surely be addressed in the evaluation process come Monday.
4. Edelman injury: Julian Edelman left Sunday’s game with what was called a chest injury. X-Rays came back negative and it is believed to be a rib injury. By a setback, Edelman is expected to play this week.
5. Dorsett scores again: Phillip Dorsett has finally come into his own and he has emerged as a go to guy for Tom Brady. Dorsett already has three touchdown catches on the season and is proving to be a reliable target in the Patriots offense.
