The Patriots will host the Jets this afternoon at Gillette Stadium. It is the first of two regular season meetings between these two long time rivals. Of course most of the talk this week has centered around now former Patriot Antonio Brown. The team will be looking forward to moving on and the best way to do that is to play a game.

Here are keys for the Patriots today.

1. Move on from Brown: As I mentioned, the best way for this team to move on from the Brown fiasco is to play today. Not only that, but they have to figure out a way to replace some of Brown’s production from last week. Rookie Jakobi Meyers will play a lot more this week obviously. He will have every opportunity to fill the void.

2. Blitz pick up: Going up a Gregg Williams defense is never easy. Williams brings pressure from all over the place. He plays man and zone behind it. With the Patriots offensive line banged up, you can expect Williams to bring even more pressure today. Especially on the left side. Bringing two guys off the edge will be a big part of his game plan today against the Patriots.

3. A more balanced approach: With Brown gone, look for the Patriots to take a more balanced approach this week. I think they’ll run the ball more and mix in more 21 and 22 personnel. They will play more like they did last season. At least for this week anyway as they try to figure out their personnel moving forward.

4. Big day on tap for the defense: With Luke Falk getting the start for the injured Sam Darnold, the Patriots defense could have a big day. Bill Belichick will get after Falk early with a variety of fronts, pressures and coverages. Falk will get an education on reading defenses today.

5. Start fast: The Patriots buried the Dolphins last week but got off to a slow start. They need to get off to a fast start today and put this Jets team away early.
