The Patriots announced today that they have released six players: Offensive lineman Jake Andrews, defensive lineman Marcus Harris, wide receiver JaQuae Jackson, linebacker Titus Leo, safety Mark Perry and tight end Giovanni Ricci were all released to open roster spots for some of the incoming rookies, most notably the undrafted free agents.
The most notable player released was Andrews. He was originally drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round (107th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft out of Troy. The 6-foot-3, 308-pounder, played in 16 games with one start at left guard as a rookie in 2023 and then spent the 2024 season on injured reserve. Andrews was expected to be the heir apparent to David Andrews at center but he could not stay healthy or seize the opportunity.
Harris, 24, was signed by the Patriots to the practice squad on Oct. 11, 2024. The 6-foot-2, 298-pounder, originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick (247th overall) of the Houston Texans out of Auburn in the 2024 NFL Draft. Jackson, 25, was signed on June 6, 2024. The 6-foot-1, 184-pounder, was originally signed by Atlanta as a rookie free agent out of Rutgers on April 30, 2024, but was released on June 4, 2024. He spent the 2024 season with New England on injured reserve.
Leo, 25, was signed by the Patriots to the 53-man roster from the Indianapolis practice squad on Nov. 19, 2024. The 6-foot-3, 250-pounder, was originally drafted in the sixth-round of the 2023 NFL Draft (211th overall) by Indianapolis out of Wagner. He played in four games with the Patriots last season and finished with 1 tackle.
Perry, 23, was signed by New England to the practice squad on Sept. 19, 2024. The 6-foot, 215-pounder, originally was signed by Miami as a rookie free agent out of TCU on May 10, 2024. Ricci, 28, signed a futures contract with New England on Feb. 3, 2025. The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder, originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Carolina Panthers out of Western Michigan in 2020. He spent his rookie season on the practice squad and then played in 36 games with four starts and finished with 9 receptions for 102 yards over the next three years with the Panthers.
The six players released now gets the Patriots to 90 players on the roster. For now anyways. More changes could be coming in the next few days.
