Grugier-Hill played inside and outside linebacker at Eastern Illinois but he will play as a nickel linebacker and safety in the NFL. Here is my scouting report on Kamu Grugier-Hill.
1. Vs. Inside Run: Hill reads guards and backs well and is patient when keying and diagnosing. Hill attacks second level blockers, stacks them and sheds. Solid tackler who finishes on contact.
2. Vs. Outside Run: Hill recognizes outside running plays quickly, spills over the top and close. Hill takes good angles to the ball and finishes.
3. Blitz/Pass Rush: Hill times his inside blitzes well and can close on ball carriers. Gets small in the hole and does a good job of engaging half the man and separating. Hill shows good explosion off the edge and can close from the backside.
4. Key &Diagnose: Hill does a good job recognizing the play quickly. He sees run flow and can fill inside and spill outside. Hill doesn’t over commit on his run reads. He’ll take his run read step and ID the play.
5. Lateral Pursuit: The most impressive part of Hill’s game. This is the reason he can play in sub packages. Hill moves well laterally and closes quickly. He takes good angles and he’s a good tackler.
6. Tackling: Physical tackler who attacks the center and the thigh board of a ball carrier and finishes them. Hill is a good tackler in space. He can get down hill, wrap up and finishes.
7. Pass Drop/Coverage: Hill is stiff in his drop. He doesn’t look fluid when he gets into his hook, curl drop. He hesitates and doesn’t gain ground. Hill is better in man coverage but he struggles to carry running backs vertically in man coverage.
