Patriots Pulse Blog: Scouting Report on Elandon Roberts.

Elandon Roberts is a hard worker who makes the most of his ability. I think back to the Peach Bowl and I was really impressed with how tough, physical and smart he is. He’s never out of position and he is active. Roberts played all three linebacker spots so he’s versatile. Here is my scouting report on Elandon Roberts.

1. Vs. Inside Run: Roberts is instinctive. Recognizes plays quickly, attacks blockers and finishes. Punishing tackler who can play inside the box or as an overhang.

2. Vs. Outside Run: Roberts can anchor down and hold the edge. Diagnoses plays quickly and can spill over the top and make a tackle. Roberts has decent lateral quickness. Gets caught in traffic at times when playing over the top.

3. Blitz/Pass Rush: A finesse pass rusher/blitzer who isn’t explosive but he understands how to attack a gap and work through it.

4. Key & Diagnose: Roberts doesn’t have natural instincts but he plays within the scheme and he can get to the ball carrier. Struggles at times against play action. Bites and gets caught out of position.

5. Lateral Pursuit: Lacks lateral acceleration. Roberts is a limited athlete in space. He’s technically sound but if he’s out of position, he struggles.

6. Tackling: Roberts is a fundamentally sound, physical tackler who targets the center of the ball carrier and drives through them. A chest up wrap tackler who doesn’t allow ball carriers to breakdown tacklers.

7. Pass Drop/Coverage: Roberts looks lost in coverage. Stiff hipped and can’t play in space. He doesn’t have a feel for zone coverage. High effort player in man coverage but he can carry a back vertically.
