In a somewhat surprising move, the Patriots released veteran defensive tackle Terrance Knighton after signing him to a one year deal this past off-season.
The Patriots wanted to add a veteran presence along their defensive line to supplement their young guys and Knighton seemed to be a perfect fit.
Pot Roast as he’s called even got into shape and trimmed down for the upcoming season. Unfortunately, being in the best shape of his career didn’t help him. Knighton did nothing to distinguish himself in training camp and as a result didn’t get enough playing to warrant keeping him on the roster.
Knighton won’t be unemployed for long. Big, run stuffing tackles like him have real value in this league, especially on first and second down.
It’s not a surprise the Patriots cut Knighton and moved on. In Bill Belichick’s world of human chess pieces, either you advance the cause or you are not a part of it. Unfortunately for Pot Roast, he didn’t do enough to further the team cause, so he’s gone.
