Patriots Pulse Blog: Clay Harbor is an Interesting Pick Up for the Patriots.

The Patriots signed veteran tight end Clay Harbor this afternoon. The 6-3 250 pound Harbor is more of a move tight end than he is a traditional tight end. He can line up in a variety of spots within a formation and create match ups versus linebackers and safeties.

Harbor is an average blocker. He can’t win one on one as an inline blocker because he’s short armed and undersized. He’s not a bad blocker out of the slot however because he can match up against nickel and dime defenders.

I think Harbor will be hard pressed to make the team unless he sticks as a special teamer. The Patriots really like Michael Williams as their third tight end because of what he does as a blocker. Despite that, Harbor is a hard worker and an overachiever out of Missouri State. Don’t be surprised if he made the team because of his work ethic.
