Bloody Red Sox Blog: Kudos to John Farrell for Having the Stones to Name Travis Shaw His Opening Day Third Baseman.

I give John Farrell credit for naming Travis Shaw his starting third baseman to start the season. Shaw had a good spring and he outperformed Pablo Sandoval. He deserves to start over him as far as I’m concerned.

It was great to see that the Red Sox didn’t factor Sandoval $19 million dollar salary in the decision and nor should they have. Sandoval has failed to produce thus far I his time in Boston. He doesn’t belong on the field as far as I’m concerned. Maybe if he played up to his potential and salary, he would be on the field. Instead, he ate his way out of the starting line-up.

The Red Sox will be fine with Shaw at third base. He’s a better player than Sandoval. He’s a better defender and hitter. He has earned the right to play everyday and I’m glad the Red Sox are going to give him that opportunity.
