Patriots Pulse Blog: Call Me Crazy, But the Patriots Should Try to Sign Eugene Monroe

Eugene Monroe would add quality depth to a Patriots offensive line that sorely needs it.

The Baltimore Ravens released veteran left tackle Eugene Monroe yesterday. Reports surfaced that the reason the team released Monroe was because of his views on legalizing marijuana. The Ravens also attempted to deal Monroe to the Giants but a deal fell through. I think all of that is a load of crap. They released Monroe because he was under performing and expensive. That’s why the Ravens drafted Ronnie Stanley. They were ready to move on from him.

Monroe is now a free agent and I think the Patriots should sign him. At this point in his career, he has made plenty of money. Its not about the cash. Its about playing for a contender. The Patriots need another tackle. They have focused primarily on guard in the past two drafts and with Sebastian Vollmer a free agent after this season, they could sign Monroe to a one year deal with an option.

Monroe will have plenty of suitors but he would listen if Bill Belichick came calling. Its the Patriots! If you want to win, you come here. The only issue would be if Monroe still wants to start. If he does, then obviously he has to look elsewhere for his next job. Either way, the Patriots should consider making a call to his agent.
