According to sources, Tom Brady has signed a two year extension with the Patriots that will take him through the 2019 season. Brady’s current deal expires after the 2017 season. The extension means that Brady will more than likely be in a Patriots uniform until the age of 42.
It also means that Brady will finish his career with the Patriots. I know things could change in the next three years but the fact of the matter is, Brady is still playing at a high level and he wants to finish his career here. Could Brady be moved before this new contract expires? Sure, but his skills would need to diminish substantially in order for that to happen.
Realistically speaking, this is probably Brady’s last contract with the team. I know he’s saying he wants to play into his mid-forties but that’s probably not going to happen. If Brady finishes out this extension in New England, it would mark his 20th season in the league and it would be his 18th year as the starting quarterback for the Patriots. That’s a long time. Brady should be content at that point, especially if he wins a fifth Lombardi between now and then. Looks like the Patriots might have to start shopping Jimmy G. He’s not starting here any time soon.
