The NFL schedule for next season is going to be announced tomorrow night but this morning we learned that the Patriots are going overseas. They are going to face off against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday November 12th. The game will be played in Frankfurt, Germany. Kick off is slated for 3:30 pm local time and 9:30 am here.

This will be the Patriots fourth international game. They have previously played two in London and one in Mexico. The Patriots were awarded this game as a home game in 2021.

In the team’s press release, Owner Robert Kraft is excited about the opportunity to play in Germany.

“I’m thrilled to play a home game in this new market and to continue to build upon our team’s long history and engagement with German fans. Our goal is to connect with fans at the local level and I look forward to expanding that fan base and fostering additional relationships and opportunities for partnership in Germany as well as Austria and Switzerland.”

The Patriots are one of the most popular NFL franchises in Germany thanks in large part to having a German presence on the team. In 2008, they drafted offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer and signed free agent fullback Jakob Johnson in 2019. Both are natives of Germany. Johnson was a part of NFL’s International Player Pathway Program.

The Patriots first international appearance came in 2009 when they traveled to London to play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Wembley Stadium. The Patriots beat the Bucs 35-7. In 2012, the Patriots returned to Wembley Stadium and beat the St. Louis Rams, 45-7. Their most recent international game was played in Mexico City in 2017. The Patriots beat the Oakland Raiders, 33-8 on Monday Night Football. In three international games, the Patriots have outscored their opponents 113-22.
