I would really appreciate it if Raiders owner Mark Davis and the NFL stopped pissing in my ear and telling me it is raining.
I get it! The Raiders are leaving Oakland. It is going to be made official this week at the league owners meetings. Let’s stop with all the back and forth nonsense with the city of Oakland.
Roger Goodell sending a letter to Oakland and explaining the league’s position to Mayor Libby Schaff is foolish. All Goodell is doing is reaffirming the league’s desire to move to Las Vegas. Goodell’s letter was a re-affirmation that the league is a business and if a member city doesn’t hold up its end of the bargain, they will lose their team.
The Raiders are getting $750 million dollars in public money. That is unheard of these days. Cities don’t typically fork over that type of money in stadium deals. We will probably never see that much public financing in a new stadium or arena deal ever again.
It is a no-brainer for Davis to take the money and run. I truly believe he wanted to keep the Raiders in Oakland. In the end, the city dragged their feet on a new stadium and they valued the A’s more than the Raiders based on their actions.
As a result, another NFL franchise with long time ties to a city will relocate. It is a sad reality of life in the NFL today. That is why NFL fans should proceed with caution with getting emotionally attached to their teams.
The Raiders relocation saga will presumably end this week. I am OK with that. At this point I have become numb to teams moving in the NFL.
