We are tracking high school coaching hires in New England. If we missed a school or hire, let us know.
Connecticut
Ansonia High School- John Mihalko stepped down recently. Expectation is one of the other assistants will step into the role.
UPDATE: Defensive coordinator Shane Kingsley is taking over the Chargers, maintaining continuity. He is also the school’s basketball coach.
Bloomfield High School- Ty Outlaw left to take over at his alma mater, East Hartford. Bloomfield will have some internal candidates but we have no names as of right now.
Derby- Well traveled Stone Belzo was hired by Derby. He bring a diverse resume and a lot of experience to the position.
East Hartford- Ty Outlaw is exactly what this program needed to get back on track. Proven hire.
Waterford- Pat Dougherty comes over from Berlin where he won a state title as an assistant last season.
Windsor: In a move no one saw coming. Rob Fleeting is back and replacing his son Quinn. The senior Fleeting to an administrative position at the school. Now he is back.
Woodland– Alum Jeremy Clark was hired. A good hire for a program coming off a great season.
Maine
Portsmouth High School- Terrific hire in Dylan Rottkov. Should be able to continue the momentum the program established under Sean Green and Nick Cliche.
Massachusetts
Attleboro High School- Still nothing on a hire. Could happen this week potentially.
UPDATE: Attleboro has hired former Bridgewater State and Norwood assistant Lamont Penn as head football coach.
Braintree High School- Braintree hired Dale Olmsted as the program’s new head coach. Olmsted being 18 years of head coaching experience between Millis High School and Nichols College. He knows how to build a program and he will put together a good staff that will work well with the players. Olmsted is exactly what Braintree needs right now given them recent coaching instability.
Canton High School– The hiring of Jeff Eckler as coach is a smart move. Eckler has been involved with the program for years and did a great job as the interim last season. Continuity is key and Eckler provides that. Good hire.
Central Catholic- John Sexton surprisingly stepped away in December. This is an attractive job with the senior class returning. Still nothing on the hire front. Waiting to hear.
Falmouth- Will be looking for a head coach again. Third time and three years.
Joseph Case High School- Mike Cloutier is the new coach at Case. Proven head coach with experience at Dedham and Falmouth. Led the Marauders to the playoffs three times and won TVL Coach of the Year twice.
Lowell High School: Lowell is a surprise opening as Scott Boyle is stepping down two years after coming back to the program.
Manchester- Essex High School- Have not heard much on this opening. Waiting to find out if a hiring has been made.
Seekonk High School– Seekonk High School named Brendan Costa as the program’s new head coach.
Whitman-Hanson Regional High School- No news yet on Whitman-Hanson. We have heard interviews have happened and a hire should be announced soon.
New Hampshire
Bedford- No news yet on a replacement for Zach Matthews.
Goffstown– Still no word if the powers that be have hired a replacement for John Preston.
