New England college round up – Week 6

It was another jam-packed weekend of New England College football with all 17 D1 teams in action.

We were able to see a bunch of those teams in person (you can see all of the game stories on the site), but for those we couldn’t get to, here’s a quick run down of what you might have missed:

Pittsburgh 48, BC 7

The Eagles dropped to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the ACC with a rather embarrassing 48-7 loss to the Panthers on the road. BC trailed 48-0 until a late touchdown pass from freshman Shaker Reisig to classmate Kaelan Chudzinski in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter. Dylan Lonergan and Grayson James combined to go 11-27 for 119 yards and an interception.

Pitt out-gained BC 503-216 and forced three Eagles turnovers. The running game mustered just 27 yards on 24 carries.

BC now gets ready for a prime time home matchup with Clemson on Saturday night.

Villanova 37, UNH 7

In big early season CAA matchup, it was the wrong Wildcats coming out of Durham with a win.

Matt Vezza’s 35-yard touchdown run and Nick Reed’s extra point with 10 minutes left in the first quarter were the only points of the day for UNH. Villanova scored 17 in the second, played a scoreless stalemate in the third and then pulled away with another 13 points in the fourth quarter. Villanova had three final drives in the third and fourth quarter last 10 plays or more,

Vezza finished 13-23 passing with 118 yards and an interception. His 48 yards rushing also led the team. Chase Wilson had three catches for 50 yards.

UNH is now 3-3 (1-1 CAA) with a trip to URI on the schedule this weekend.
