Top 5 Matchups to watch in the Patriots-Bills game

The Patriots travel to Buffalo tonight to take on the Buffalo Bills in what is a litmus test game for them. New England has been played well in Buffalo in recent years and a big reason for that is, they match up well against Josh Allen and company.

Tonight’s match ups will be key. The game within the game. The Patriots have to win one on one match ups in order to win collectively.

Here are five match ups to watch.

Will Campbell vs. Greg Rousseau: Rousseau is long and athletic. His length creates problems for opposing offensive tackles. Campbell’s arm length is well documented and it could be an issue tonight. The Patriots may have to chip Rousseau at times. If Campbell can hold up on the backside without much help, it would go a long way in helping the Patriots offense stay on schedule.

Christian Gonzalez vs. Khalil Shakir: Shakir is the Bills best receiver and they use him in a multitude of ways as they try to free him up. I expect the Patriots to play a lot of man coverage tonight. Expect Gonzalez to match up with him a lot as the Patriots try to limit Shakir’s effectiveness in the offense.

Morgan Moses vs. Joey Bosa: Moses has had his battles with Bosa in the past and while he has struggled with him, he has also held his own. Bosa is not the elite level pass rusher he once was but he is still effective and his first step quickness will give Moses some problems. In an ideal world, the Patriots slide their protections left and chip on the backside. If they have to help Moses, it will be a long night.

Patriots RB’s vs. Buffalo’s front seven: The Patriots should be able to run the football tonight. Buffalo is 31st in the NFL against the run, surrendering over 6 yards a carry. The weather will be a non-factor. It is a good night to pound their undersized front and get after them up front.

Harold Landry vs. Spencer Brown: Assuming Brown plays (He’s questionable), this match up with Landry will be one to watch. Landry spearheads one of the best pass rushes in the NFL thus far. One that could give the Bills problems. If Brown does not play for whatever reason, the Patriots could have a distinct advantage here as Landry would be matched up against former UConn standout Ryan Van Demark.
