NCAA Football: My Top Five Heisman Finalists

College football is here and it’s time to talk who are the pre-season favorites to win the Heisman. It’s a loaded field, so here goes.

1. Christian McCaffery, RB Stanford: McCaffery is the most versatile playmaker in the country. He plays all three downs on offense and he returns kicks. McCaffery will once again push for 2,000 yards from scrimmage.

2. DeShaun Watson, QB Clemson: Watson is one of the top quarterbacks in the country. He’s a dual threat who can impact a game as a runner and as a passer. Watson led the Tigers to the college football playoff last season and there is no reason to believe he can’t do it again this season.

3. Leonard Fournette, RB LSU: Fournette struggled down the stretch last season because he faced an eight man front on every down. If the Tigers passing game improves this season, Fournette will once again get more favorable looks and put up big numbers again.

4. Baker Mayfield, QB Oklahoma: Mayfield will either win or lose the Heisman in the first month of the season. Oklahoma has games against Houston and Ohio State. If Mayfield leads the Sooners to victory in both of those games, he’ll be the Heisman favorite the rest of the season provided he plays well.

5. Dalvin Cook, RB Florida State: Cook is going to be the focal point of the Seminoles offense. He will get 20-25 touches a game and will put up big numbers. All that being said, Florida State will need to make a national championship run for Cook to be considered for the Heisman.
