NCAA Football: Bowl Preview and Picks for December 29th

After going 0-3 yesterday with my picks, I need to bounce back today in a big way. Here’s hoping for the sweep.

South Florida -10 v. South Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl: I’m taking the Bulls in this one. South Florida junior quarterback Quinton Flowers is one of the best dual threat quarterbacks in the country and I think he’ll run and throw all over a suspect Gamecocks defense.

Virginia Tech -7 v. Arkansas, in the Belk Bowl: I’m taking the Hokies in what should be a quasi home game for them in Charlotte.

Virginia Tech is the more athletic team and I think defensive coordinator Bud Foster will scheme up the one-dimensional Arkansas offense and stop them.

I’m comfortable taking the Hokies in this one. I think they’ll cover easily as a touchdown favorite in a game that could go back and forth for a while.

Colorado v. Oklahoma State +3.5, in the Alamo Bowl:
I don’t buy the Buffaloes. I haven’t bought them all season long and I am not about to start now.

Colorado has struggled offensively against ranked opponents this season and I expect that trend to continue in this game as well.

Oklahoma State can score points and on a fast track like the Alamo Dome, I expect them to score plenty. I’m putting my money on the Cowboys in this one as a dog.
