Jerod Mayo expected back in 2025 barring late season collapse

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Kraft Family intends to bring back Jerod Mayo as head coach for the 2025 season barring a collapse over the final three weeks.

“The Kraft’s want to keep Jerod Mayo. They believe he is the leader for their organization, for their future, and they knew it would be a multi-year process to get this thing right. That is their stance right now.”

Rapoport continued: “Now if things go off the rails, if they start to really struggle, if he loses the locker room in the last couple games of the season, we’ve seen this thing turn. But as of now, the Patriots believe Jerod Mayo is their leader for the future.”

This report makes no sense. It makes the Kraft’s seem like they are waffling on Mayo. Barring a late season collapse? The Patriots are 3-11 and one of the worst teams in the league. The collapse happened a long time ago.

It seems like Robert Kraft wants to retain Mayo but he wants to see if the team will play hard for him all the way to the end of the season. If he feels Mayo has lost the locker room, a change is possible.

I still do not see the Patriots moving on from Mayo. The organization knew this was going to be a rebuilding year. Firing Mayo after one season. would be a terrible look for Kraft considering he hired Mayo on his based on his “gut” instinct. What changed? I do not seeing it happening. Expect Mayo to be back next season.
