Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker James Harrison posted on his Instagram account this weekend that if the NFL wants to interview him regarding performance enhancing drugs, then Roger Goodell can come to his house and interview himself. The snide post is in response to a report that the league plans to show up to the first day of Steelers training camp and interview Harrison regarding PEDS.
It’s no secret that Harrison has long opposed the league’s drug testing policy and that he openly hates Roger Goodell. He has been especially vocal about his disdain for the league’s testing policy this off season after he was mentioned in the Al Jazeera documentary about performance enhancing drugs in the NFL. Peyton Manning, Julius Peppers, Clay Matthews and Mike Neal were also mentioned in the documentary.
I’m not going to sit here and speculate as to whether Harrison is on PEDS or not. Just because he’s in great shape and playing at high level for his age, doesn’t mean he’s cheating. That being said, where there is smoke, there’s fire. The league has enough reason to investigate Harrison. He was implicated in the documentary and he should have to answer to that.
It might not matter however as Harrison doesn’t seem interested in cooperating. For all we know, he might just decide to retire as a result of all of this.
Harrison doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him. Not the NFL, not the fans, not anyone. If the league pushes his buttons enough, he’ll just retire and move on with his life. Harrison has always done it his way and this situation will not be any different. Either way you look at it, Harrison is once again in the spotlight and as usual, he’s come out swinging.
