Late on Tuesday afternoon, MassLive’s Chris Mason reported that gun charges against Jack Jones had been dropped by the Suffolk County DA.
In exchange for the charges being dropped, Jones must serve 48 hours of community service and a year of pre-trial probation, according to the court documents. Back in June, Jones was arrested at Logan Airport after a Glock box, two guns and ammunition was found in a duffel bag with Jones’ name on the tag.
Despite the charges being dropped, Jones could still be suspended by the NFL for violating the conduct policy. Jones will now be “under review” with the opener against Philadelphia just five days away.
“It can not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that Mr. Jones had knowledge that he he possessed the firearms in his bag at the time of the incident,” prosecutors said in their filing.
Whether you agree with the results or not, Jones figures to be a huge piece of the Patriots’ secondary puzzle this season along with Jonathan Jones, Christian Gonzalez and Marcus Jones. Although he isn’t totally in the clear yet with the league, this is obviously huge news for a Patriots team that needs all hands on deck to defend a high powered Philadelphia offense.
