I wouldn’t mind seeing these two guys in a Celtics uni. 

I am going put my fan hat on. I want Danny Ainge to trade for either Dwight Howard or Kevin Love. The Celtics need a face of the franchise. A proven commodity that can enable them to make a run in the Eastern Conference. I know most Celtics fans will disagree with the notion that they need a star but look at the Atlanta Hawks last season. They won 60 games but when they ran into the Cleveland Cavaliers, a team full of stars, they lost.

Stars give a team a chance. If you have one, your chances at making a playoff run improve exponentially. If you don’t have one, your chances at making a title run aren’t as good. I know some Celtics fans want Ainge to hold to the picks and draft players, but the Celtics are a playoff team now. They need to take the next step. The rebuild is over folks. 

The warts in both Howard and Love’s games are obvious but both would represent an upgrade at what the Celtics have right now at center and power forward. That’s why Ainge needs to acquire either one or both of them.

Yes, I said both of them. Why not? It’s about making a run this season. Ainge has to use all of fabled assets he’s acquired at some point. I know Howard and bounce this off-season and I know that Love comes with a hefty contract but who cares! You’re the Boston Celtics. You’re a basketball blue blood! They can afford both.

If the Celtics want to be relevant around here again, they need to make a trade in the next week. If they don’t, they’ll finish anywhere between the 3rd and 7th seed and may win a round. If they acquire Howard, Love or both, they can make a deeper run. I’m just saying.
