Godchaux believes things won’t be all that different for Patriots in 2024

It’s a new day and age in Foxborough, but so far, it hasn’t felt too different for the veterans.

During his Mother’s Day brunch through the Chauxdown Foundation on Thursday, the big defensive tackle entering his fourth year with New England was asked how different the feeling is through the first few weeks of voluntary workouts.

“Jerod is a Bill Belichick guy, so it’s not going to be like crazy different,” he said. “Of course. (Jerod’s) still young, so he’s going to bring a little new energy, but it’s still kind of still the same to me. The workouts are almost still the same. It’s not really going to be that much different. Jerod…you would put him under the Belichick tree. He was a Belichick player, he coached under Belichick, so it’s kind of going to be the same thing defensive wise. Offense I don’t get involved in that.

“It’s going to be the same to me, a few different things. You know, we’ve got some younger coaches. First-year defensive coordinator DeMarcus Covington. Jerry Montgomery D-line coach came from Green Bay. So, you’ve got a couple new guys, but for the most part it’s – to me – it’s going to be the same.”

As a whole, Godchaux believes the changes should benefit everyone, but there’s also a long way to go before anyone really knows just how impactful they’ll be.

“Change is good sometimes,” he added. “We’ll see. The season hasn’t started yet. I know a lot of people get excited for football, but football really doesn’t get here until late August, September. I mean, you hear the commissioner, he’s talking about not even having preseason games anymore. He doesn’t even want guys to play preseason. Before you know it I think there’s going to be 20 NFL regular season games.

“People get excited early. It’s a long way to go. It’s just kind of offseason…putting your feet in. Nobody’s going to win a Super Bowl today, but you can work towards winning a Super Bowl in film. So, I call it like the dark hours. The hours nobody sees and people dob’t know about.”
