The Windham High School football program is on a journey of a lifetime this week. The Jaguars are participating in the Global Ireland Football Tournament, and will open their season Friday (7 a.m. EST) against the Maclay School of Tallahassee, Florida.
Windham flew from Boston to Dublin on Tuesday and is scheduled to return on Sunday.
Assistant coach Lauren Gaudette is chronicling their trip for us. Here is a little bit of what the players and coaches did in day two of the trip.
Day Two:
-Started the day with our walk through practice, touching on a few more things and squaring them away! It was an extremely productive practice! It was a pleasure and honor that The U19 Irish Wolfhounds Head Coach Alan Lomasney and his staff stopped by our practice and had a few things to say to the team! Also, the Head Coach for UCD, Darragh Farrell, came by also and said a few words to the group! UCD won the recent college championship!
After practice, we went to a restaurant in Malahide for lunch. After that, we walked through Malahide and arrived at Malahide Castle! At the castle, we went on a tour through the medieval castle and learned about the castle and it’s residents over the centuries. Beautiful grounds and a beautiful castle!
After our tour of Malahide Castle, we arrived at the Global Ireland Football Tournament prep rally! 5 of the 6 teams present were introduced and we had a guest speaker, Desmond Howard! Desmond took time to remind us that “You’re not just football players, you’re ambassadors for the game we love.” I know it certainly inspired me, being able for us to share and display our love for this game and our love for each other for the world to see. We went to a dinner and a show afterwards, showing Celtic music and Irish Dance!
Gameday tomorrow! We can’t wait!
