The quarterback position is not only the most important position in sports in reality, it is in fantasy as well. Especially in leagues that cater to the passing game. If you are one of those owners who like to wait on quarterbacks, have no fear.
The position is deep and there is a lot of good value in the later rounds.
Here are five value quarterbacks to target in the later rounds.
5. Andrew Luck, Colts: The Colts are insisting that Luck will be ready by the start of the regular season. I’ll believe it when I see it. He hasn’t thrown a football yet this off-season. All of that being said, Luck could be a late round steal if he does indeed come back. If Luck is sitting on the board in rounds 16 to 18, I would draft him. He may end up your starting quarterback when all is said and done.
4. Alex Smith, Redskins: Smith will not put up the same numbers he did last season in Kansas City but he has some good pieces to work with in Washington. Smith has always taken care of the football, which is important in fantasy and reality. He will not force it double coverage like some quarterbacks do. Smith will not put up gaudy numbers he did last season but he is still a terrific value and he should be productive enough in Jay Gruden’s offense to warrant QB1 consideration.
3. Mitchell Trubisky, Bears: I am buying on Mitchell Trubisky and the Bears offense in 2018. I think Trubisky will take the next step under new head coach Matt Nagy and offensive coordinator Mark Helfrich. The Bears bolstered their receiving corp with the additions of Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, Anthony Miller and tight end Trey Burton. Trubisky will have plenty of weapons at his disposal. If you are one of those owners who waits for a quarterback, put Trubisky on your short list. He would be a terrific value in rounds 10 to 12.
2. Pat Mahomes, Chiefs: Mahomes has big arm talent and is athletic. Andy Reid will do a variety of different things with him schematically to take advantage of those attributes. There will be a bit of a learning curve but Mahomes has a lot of talent around him and as long as he takes care of the football, he is poised to have a breakthrough season in 2018.
1. Tyrod Taylor, Browns: Taylor was a productive fantasy quarterback in Buffalo the past two seasons and he didn’t have nearly as much talent around him as he does now in Cleveland. Taylor is the perfect place keeper at the position for the Browns. He’s smart, has plus arm and most importantly, he takes care of the ball. There is sneaky sleeper potential with Taylor. The only question is, how long will he have the job? If the Browns struggle early on, do they turn the reigns over to Baker Mayfield? We’ll see. For now, Taylor could be a terrific late round value based on past production and the talent around him.
