Consistency the word of the week for Jones & the Pats

One is nice, two would be a whole lot better, especially in the division.

After upsetting Buffalo last week, the Pats legitimately have a chance to continue turning what looked like an abysmal season around if they can match the same effort they put forth last week when they head down to Miami this weekend.

The guy who needs another strong performance the most is Mac Jones, and he knows it.

“Very important. That’s really the word of the week for us,” Jones said when answering a particular question about Bill O’Brien and his approach with the offense. “How can we do it over-and-over again and put good days and good plays together, is what I’m going to say.”

For Jones, the fourth quarter drive to beat Buffalo was something fans have been waiting for since he was drafted here. But, does he believe it changed the national perception of him or prove anything to anyone outside the walls of 1 Patriot Place?

“Really just want to build off the momentum and continue to do it, do it over and over again. Stick to the process, have expectations for yourself and don’t pay attention to the other expectations,” Jones said. To his credit, Jones has regularly denied hearing any of the noise that surrounds him, which is impressive for a young player given how loud that noise has been. Sure, Jones is no longer a “kid” at 25 years old, but it’d be understandable if all the criticism and negativity had seeped in a bit.

“That’s going to be big for me, and really starts in practice, right? Try to focus on ‘how can you do it again’? How can you stack good days together’’? That’s going to be a very big focus for me this week.”

Mac – once again – talked about his process on Wednesday and sticking to it. Every athlete is routine-based, but it seems that Jones in particular is diligent about sticking to his process, whether the results follow or not. The results followed Sunday, which means his usual stoic approach was as apparent as ever with preparation for Miami beginning this week.

“I always talk about the process and kind of what I do each week – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and then get ready on Saturday for the game,” he said. “Regardless of what happens, it’s a one-week season every week. We understand that here, and that’s important to understand, because you’ve got to go out there and do it each week.”
