Phillips Academy has turned to a legendary figure from its own past to lead the “Big Blue” football program into the 2026 season. Ernie Adams, the longtime New England Patriots research director and a central figure in the franchise’s six Super Bowl titles, has been named the program’s interim head coach. Rivals Andy Villamarzo was first to confirm the news with the school.

Waterford High School has hired Pat Dougherty as the program’s new head football coach. Dougherty comes to Waterford from Berlin High School where he coached under John Capodice. The Redcoats won the Class MM state title this past season.
After serving as interim coach in 2025, Tom Unger was named the full time coach at West Haven High School.
The decision to hire Unger full time was made at the end of January according to GameTime CT. Unger led the Blue Devils to a 5-5 record last season, barely missing the playoffs.

Zach Matthews is stepping down as head football coach at Bedford High School. After a successful stint in which he guided the Bulldogs to state title in 2022, 2023 and 2025, Matthews is moving to Virginia to become the new head football coach and assistant athletic director at Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia.
