Big Game Predictions for Week 10

Tons of high school games on this week’s prediction slate. We have all six states covered and we have the big Division One college games and my Patriots pick as well.

Here we goooo……

High School

Lowell at Methuen: Two MVC teams clashing in the playoffs. Many people see Lowell as a sleeper in Division One. It is not a far fetched thought. Methuen fits the bill as well and despite losing to Billerica last week, I am going with the Rangers at home in what should be a great game. Pick: Methuen

Franklin at Leominister: hard for me to pick against a Todd Kiley coached team and a Hockomock League team. Give the Panthers in what should be a high scoring affair. Pick: Franklin.

Plymouth South at Mansfield: The Hornets are still simmering after last week’s loss to Canton. Plymouth South is a good football team and could win this game. I think it is close but I am leaning Hornets here at home. It is Mike Redding season. He has been here before. Pick: Mansfield

Milford at North Attleboro: Quality Hock match up between two schools that know each other. Milford is talented but undermanned. Can they hold up against North’s physical run game? Not for four quarters. Going Red Rocketeeers in this one. Pick: North Attleboro

Melrose at Masco: Stopping Jack Fabiano is a tall task. I think Melrose can hang for a while but Masco will pull away. Pick: Masco

Danvers at Ashland: Danvers is a tough first round match up for most Division 4 teams. I expect a physical slugfest that will come down to the wire. I like the Falcons in what should be a really good game. Pick: Danvers

Swampscott at Archbishop Williams: Is the Archies the real deal? We will find out right out of the gate. Swampscott is a good football team. The question is, can they score enough to keep up. I don’t think so. Hudson Garrity and company pick up a statement win. Pick: Archbishop Williams

Bellingham at Hudson: The defending champs have a long road ahead of them if they want to win it again in Division 6. Bellingham will be a tough opening game, but these Hawks are battle tested and they will outlast the Blackhawks. Pick: Hudson

Hand at Fairfield Prep (CT): Fairfield Prep is a top ten team but you get the sense that there is a little bit of a lack of respect. Since an opening loss to Greenwich, the Jesuits have rattled off six in a row. Can they contnue it tonight? No. I don’t think Prep scores enough to win this game. I am going with Bobby Reh, Lucca Boyce and the Tigers.

Greenwich at Wilton (CT): Wilton is good but the question is, are they at Greenwich’s level. They beat the Cardinals 20-17 last season and the Warriors are even better this season. Despite that, I think the Cardinals offense might be better this season. I think Jack Kelly and company avenge last season’s loss. Pick: Greenwich

New Canaan at Staples (CT): New Canaan Coach Lou Marinelli is going to miss his first game since 1981. I think that inspires the Rams to pick a big road win against a Staples that has struggled of late. Pick: New Canaan

Woodland at Holy Cross (CT): No chance I am picking against Dae’Sean Graves and the Crusaders. Last week they beat unbeaten Waterbury Career Academy and they repeat the feat. Pick: Holy Cross.

Londonderry at Nashua South (NH): Londonderry is not your typical 13 seed. They are more than capable of going on the road an winning. Problem is, this Nashua South team is good and they have proven it this season. I am going with the Purple Panthers here. Pick: Nashua South

Nashua North at Bishop Guertin (NH): I think Guertin is a good team that could surprise and make a deep run. Nate Bowen and the Cardinals offense is explosive. They will be too much to handle for North. Pick: Bishop Guertin

Falmouth at Kennebunk (ME): These two programs love playing each other. I think this will be another great game but Falmouth avenges a week one loss with a big win here. Pick: Falmouth

St. Ray’s at Bishop Hendricken (RI): Doubt the Hawks at your own peril. They proved last week that they still have what it takes to make a state title run. St. Ray’s is talented but the  Hawks are the more physical team. Pick: Bishop Hendricken

Portsmouth at Cranston West (RI): Portsmouth let a golden opportunity slip through their hands last week in a loss to Bishop Hendricken. Cranston West on the other hand capitalized on opportunities and beat La Salle. I think that carries a lot of weight with me. Going with the home standing Falcons. Pick: Cranston West.

Burr & Burton vs. Middlebury (VT): I want to believe that the Bulldogs are back and can make a run to next week’s state title game. I think they can but let’s not forget, the Tigers beat them 38-21 on October 17th. It is hard to beat a team twice, but the Tigers pull it off. Pick: Middlebury

Rutland vs. St. Johnsbury (VT): Rutland won the first match up but St. Johnsbury’s gets it’s revenge this time around, setting up an intriguing Division One title game next week. Pick: St. Johnsbury

Tabor Academy at BB&N (MA): I fully expect Mike Willey’s Knight to play well and make this a game but it is hard to pick against this loaded Tabor team and Peter Bourque. I am going with the Seawolves. Pick: Tabor.

College

SMU at Boston College: Eagles hung tough last week against Notre Dame and played with pride. They have another reason to play for something more this week in the annual Red Bandana game. SMU is good but I think they will overlook the Eagles and B.C will take advantage. Eagles get back on track with a big upset win. Pick: BC

Duke at UConn: It would be nice if the Huskies pulled this of but it will be tough. Duke is good and they will prove that by coming to Hartford and beating a UConn team that is certainly good enough to hang. Pick: Duke

Yale at Brown: Bulldogs are starting to roll and they will keep the good time rolling against a Brown team that is falling apart again. Pick: Yale

Princeton at Dartmouth: Big Green need to bounce back after a tough loss to Harvard. Princeton will be a tough match up but Grayson Saulnier and company get it done. Dartmouth bounces back. Pick: Dartmouth

New Hampshire at Monmouth: The Wildcats had two weeks to prepare for this one. I think they play well but will fall short against an offense that is just too explosive. Pick: New Hampshire

Patriots

Patriots at Buccaneers: Missed opportunity by the NFL to do Pat the Patriot vs. Bucco Bruce. My head tells to pick Tampa. My heart tells me to pick the Patriots. I am going with my heart and picking the Patriots. They can absolutely beat a Bucs team that is good but not great and coming off a bye. Pick: Patriots
