You don’t think rivalry when you hear UConn and Duke – at least not on the gridiron – but the two have developed a nice little competitive animosity over the last couple of seasons.

This is going to be a regular occurrence going forward too.

On Wednesday, the Huskies announced that the two schools have agreed to additional games on September 11, 2027 in Durham and then October 14, 2028 back in East Hartford. These games are in addition to ones that had already been scheduled for this year (September 29 at UConn), September 29, 2029 (also at The Rent) and in 2030 when the Blue Devils host the matchup on August 31.

Back on September 23, 2023, the Blue Devils beat up UConn in East Hartford 41-7. Last season, you could make the argument that the 26-21 loss to Duke on the road was actually a jumping off point for the historic season the program had. The Huskies were off to a rough start, but the fight showed in that game sort of propelled Jim Mora’s squad into the rest of the team’s campaign and ultimately showed them what they were capable of against an ACC opponent.

Right now, the series stands at 2-2, but both of UConn’s wins came two decades ago in 2004 and again in 2007.

Playing as an independent doesn’t really allow for rivalries to develop (aside from UMass of course and we’re not even getting that this year). The continuation of this series with Duke allows UConn to have at least one game to circle on the calendar each of the next few years, It’ll also allow some more hate (football hate, not real hate) to fester between these two programs.

This also allows the faithful fan base to start booking some fall vacations ahead of time down in North Carolina.
