FOXBOROUGH – After covering the historic 52-51 Central Catholic win over Xaverain last week, I knew I had to incorporate the Patriots somehow for at least one follow up.

I mean, it’s going to go down as one of the best games in state history, at least in the last 20-25 years.

So with that in mind, during the first bit of media availability in the locker room on Wednesday, I was able to ask nine different players for the craziest or most memorable high school or college game they remember playing in.

The answers certainly varied, but you never know which game will end up leaving a lasting impression on a player throughout their life, especially the losses…

Drake Maye (Myers Park High School, Charlotte, NC)

“My college game at App State (352 passing yards, five total touchdowns). We won like, 63-61 maybe? In high school, we probably won…I think we won a game 42-28. We always slung it.”

*Note – 62 points COMBINED were scored in just the fourth quarter of the App State-UNC game on September 3, 2022.

Will Campbell (Neville High School, Monroe, LA)

“Man, I don’t know about high school. I know it wasn’t that long ago…college, I’d say my sophomore year at Ole Miss. High-scoring game. We were down like, 21-0 and we came back. We ended up losing, but the score ended up being like, 56-51 or something like that. Yeah.”

*Note – 1,343 total yards of offense was recorded between the two teams. September 30, 2023.

Gabe Jacas (Fort Pierce Central High School, Fort Pierce, FL)

“I would definitely say my junior year, we lost like, 50-something to 14 against Vero Beach. The craziest game we won was my last game my senior year, we beat Miami Pace. We weren’t supposed to win, so that was like the craziest one to experience. I don’t remember the score unfortunately.”

Dre’Mont Jones (St. Ignattius High School, Cleveland, OH)

“In 2012, St. Ignatius High School in Cleveland Ohio versus Mentor. I think the score was 62-59, double overtime I think. We lost. Mitchell Trubisky was the quarterback for the other team.”

Christian Elliss (Valor Christian High School, Highlands Ranch, CO)

“I have a cool picture…we were playing in the middle of a blizzard and it was just basically a run-stopping game. We weren’t passing the ball, they weren’t passing the ball. It’s probably the most memorable high school game I’ve ever played at Valor Christian. I know we won. I remember I wore this camo blue long sleeves and tights. Our colors were blue and white. So, we had some sweet photos. I don’t remember the score, but it was the craziest game I’ve played in…I think the highest scoring game I ever played in we scored like, 79 my senior year. I can’t remember the team we beat, it was like our first or second game that season.”

Caleb Lomu (Highland High School, Gilbert, AZ)

“Probably…one of the best atmosphere ones was my sophomore year of high school. It was the quarterfinals at a place called Boulder Creek. It came down to the last second. Super cold game. It was a super fun game, but I don’t remember the score. It was a high-scoring game though.”

Andy Borregales (Chaminade-Madonna College Prep, Champagnat Catholic High School, FL)

“Both state championship games that we won. But, I think my (craziest) one would be my junior year (with Chaminade-Madonna College Prep). we were playing Miami Central. They had us losing by like, 30 or something and we ended up winning 20-7. I had a 56-yarder and then a 50-yarder in that game. That was my career-long in high school.”

Julian Ashby (Parkview High School, Lilburn, GA)

“My biggest  memory is probably my last high school game. We lost in the semifinals to Marietta. I want to say it was 51-37 or something like that. we lost by like two scores, but it was never close. They were beating us up pretty much the whole night…a sold out high school crowd, probably 20 or 25 guys that went D1 from those two teams. It was crazy.”

Bryce Baringer Notre Dame Academy, Marist Academy, Pontiac, MI)

“There wasn’t any crazy ones. I remember we played River Rouge one year and it was kind of back and forth and it was pouring rain. That was a good game. I think that was like, 2015 or 2016.”
