The Buffalo Bills drafted former UConn offensive tackle Chase Lundt in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. Lundt was drafted with Pick 206.
Lundt was a four year starter for the Huskies, starting 49 games. Lundt only missed one game in his college career. According to Pro Football Focus, Lundt was also one of five offensive tackles this past season to allow less than 10 quarterback pressures.
Lundt helped the Huskies have one of the top rushing attacks in the country. UConn rushed for 2,590 yards, the second highest total in school history. They ranked 23rd in the nation in rushing yards per game at 192.7 yards per game.
The Arlington, Texas native came to Storrs a tall, lanky project who made himself a player. He was originally signed by Randy Edsall’s staff but he really developed under the tutelage of Huskies offensive coordinator Gordie Sammis who was his offensive line coach.
Lundt is the latest Husky lineman to get drafted or sign with an NFL team joining Matt Peart, Ryan Van Demark and Christian Haynes. Lundt talked about the relationship he had with each of those guys and how they helped him developed.
“My biggest thing is that I believe in loyalty,” Lundt said. “That ties in with this program for as long as l’ve been here. Regardless of who the coach was, we had a pretty tight-knit group on our offensive line, with Ryan Van Demark being here, with Matt Peart being here. The year I had with Matt, he was a great mentor for me, as well. Then recently Christian (Haynes), the guy I played next to for three years. You don’t get that type of chemistry within the offensive line room like we have.”
Now Lundt is the latest to continue the UConn streak of developing offensive linemen in recent years. He is the ninth UConn offensive lineman drafted.
Lundt will have a good shot at making the Bills as a swing tackle with future starter potential. He joins a veteran group that should help his development.
