At one time not so long ago, Acton-Boxborough was considered a threat regularly to compete for championships.
It’s been a while since Revolution fans and supporters have seen the boys in blue and gold in truly meaningful games late in the year around Thanksgiving time, but hopefully, that’s changing soon.
On Monday night, the school officially announced its new head coach is Billy Waters.
Waters is a Waltham High School graduate and played his college football at Curry College, winning four straight conference titles. Waters has been helping out with the A-B lacrosse program under Pat Amendolia for years and has also been coaching throwers in Billerica’s Track and Field Program. Under his guidance, the Indians’ throwing program has won seven MVC titles and four D3 state titles, a pretty remarkable achievement. Waters has also been a member of Billerica’s football staff for multiple deep playoff runs and MVC championships.
We had the chance to speak with Waters once the news broke and he couldn’t be more excited.
“I am truly honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead the Acton-Boxborough football program,” Waters said in a recent phone interview. “The support from players, parents, staff, alumni, and the entire community has been incredible and I deeply appreciate it.”
Waters believes his last handful of years within the A-B community will help the transition and allow the program to hit the ground running this spring.
“Coaching at Acton-Boxborough over the past five years has been an amazing journey,” he added. “Seeing the impact we’ve made together is humbling. My family and I are beyond excited for the season ahead. Let’s get to work. Go AB Football!”
