The Patriots added $2 million worth of incentives to Trent Brown’s current contract, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The reworked deal makes the one year remaining on Brown’s deal worth up to $13 million dollars.
The pay raise puts Brown in the upper half of the NFL when it comes to tackle compensation. Brown made the move back to left tackle last season and started every game. Despite struggling with penalties, he solidified the position for the team.
Despite playing every game last season, Brown has had durability issues throughout his career. He missed Sunday’s game against the Dolphins due to a concussion. There is no word if he will return this week.
When healthy and motivated, Brown has the potential to be one of the top left tackles in the NFL but he hasn’t always played up to that potential.
The Patriots offensive line struggled on Sunday against Miami so they can use Brown back sooner than later. Especially this week against the Jets talented defensive line.
