The Boston College coaching staff has an opening after offensive line coach Matt Applebaum accepted the Miami Dolphins offensive line job yesterday.
Applebaum will join the staff of new head coach Mike McDaniel. The two worked together in Washington when Applebaum was a player personnel and offensive assistant. The Shanahan connection is what ultimately led McDaniel to hire Applebaum.
Applebaum inherited a talented offensive line when he came to Boston College in 2020. Zion Johnson, Alec Lindstrom, Ben Petrula and Tyler Vrabel were already established starters and Applebaum helped take their game to the next level. All four are expected to get drafted in April’s draft.
Replacing Applebaum will not be easy this late in the off-season but Jeff Hafley has enough connections that he can certainly find a replacement. Coaching the offensive line at Boston College carries some prestige with it so it will be an appealing job.
The Eagles kick off spring practice on February 26th so Hafley will have to move quickly to replace Applebaum.
