Patriots Pulse Blog: Scouting Report on Ted Karras.

Ted Karras comes from a family with a long and decorated history of playing football. He is the great nephew of Detroit Lions legend and former Webster star Alex Karras. Ted, is an overachiever who made himself into a division one prospect and an NFL draft prospect. He is a hard worker who maximizes his ability. Here is my scouting report on Ted Karras.

1. Initial Quicks: Karras shows decent quickness off the snap. He can get inside a defensive tackle, engage them and get them off the ball. Karras struggles with shade technique tackles, especially when the defense is in sub packages.

2. Run Block: Karras is strong at the point of attack. He has the functional upper body strength to engage a defender one on one and get movement. Plays with decent leverage and control. Slow to come off double teams. Karras is routinely late getting to the second level.

3. Pass Block: Below average pass blocker. Struggles to move laterally and his feet are routinely wide on his pass set. Can sustain pass blocks against power and rip rushers but he struggles against speed rushers who can take an edge.

4.Pull & Trap: Limited lateral quickness. Karras is high when pulls and folds and he’s high on run reach blocks. Limited athleticism in space.

5. Use of Hands: Karras has heavy hands. They complement his thick upper body well. Gets separation and movement on a consistent basis in the run game.

6. Strength: Karras is strong and he can hold his own at the point of attack. Gets good movement and can anchor down against bigger tackles.

7. Explosion: Limited. Karras is not very athletic. You don’t see the explosion on film. Tends at stalemate a lot of defenders at the line. This especially true on man gap running plays.

8. Long Snap: No. Karras does not long snap.
