The Bruins and soon to be free agent Loui Eriksson have reached an impasse in contract negotiations. So, the Bruins need to do the right thing and trade Eriksson. With Eric Staal traded this afternoon, Eriksson becomes the most valuable offensive player on the market. Don Sweeney needs to strike while the iron is hot.
So what should the Bruins ask for in return for Eriksson? The conversation with any team should start with a young defenseman that can play right now and two draft picks in the next two years. If any team is looking to add offense, then they should be willing to part with that type of package for Eriksson. With offense at such a premium around the league right now, the Bruins should be able to get that type of package in return for Eriksson.
Eriksson has had a good season but he’s not a great fit in Claude Julien’s system. That’s why it’s probably not a good idea to invest in him long term. Moving Eriksson by tomorrow’s deadline is imperative. The Bruins need help along the blue line. Eriksson is the one player on their roster that they can use to acquire that type of player.
