Doc’s Daily Rants for 2/24/16

Hug
Enough already!

1. After shitting their pants against the T-Wolves on Monday night, the Celtics return home tonight against Milwaukee. They will play their next five games at home and 14 of their last 24 games at the Garden. If they don’t finish a top five seed, I’ll be disappointed. Their remaining schedule puts them in a position where they can.

2. The Bruins host the Penguins tonight in what is a big game for both teams when it comes to playoff positioning. The B’s are currently the first wild card in the Eastern Conference with 70 points. Pittsburgh is the second wild card with 68. If Boston wants to make the playoffs, they need to win tonight. This game could be what decides them getting in. I’m not over stating things here. Tonight’s game is huge!

3. If the Bruins do in fact trade Loui Eriksson, they need to get back an established defensemen who can step in and play big minutes for them. I think an Eriksson for Keith Yandle deal makes perfect sense if the Rangers were willing to make that trade. They need offense and the Bruins need blue line help. Calgary has a plethora of defensemen as well so don’t sleep on them as a potential trade partner either.

4. I’m over the David Price and David Ortiz lovefest in the media. Stop ballwashing each other and play baseball! Enough already!

5. I agree with ESPNBoston’s Mike Reiss that the Patriots should focus on offensive and defensive lineman at the Combine. Despite having more pressing needs at wide receiver and running back, they need to draft a starting caliber offensive tackle and they need to get younger at defensive tackle. If nothing else, they need depth along the defensive line.

6.If Donald Fehr were still the head of the baseball union, Jose Reyes would be in Rockies camp. I know what he’s been charged with but it makes zero sense to me to keep him out of spring training. I know the players union agreed to these terms but its ridiculous.

7. Combine starts this week in Indy. Here’s five guys I’m looking at. All of them have major question marks entering this process.
1. Christian Hackenberg QB Penn State
2. Noah Spence DE Eastern Kentucky
3. Shawn Oakman DE Baylor
4. Robert Nkemdiche DT Ole Miss
5. Derrick Henry RB Alabama

8. Can the authorities in Philly make up their minds! Either charge Shady McCoy with something or move on! Honestly, I don’t think they have anything. That’s why they are waffling.

9. I think Dexter Fowler is a great pick up for the O’s. He gives them a legit bat at the top of the order and he’ll play gold glove caliber defense in the out field.

10. Enough already with Gronk’s stupid cruise! I DON’T CARE ANYMORE! The guy is 26! Somebody tell him spring break ended for him when he signed an NFL contract. Jeez!
