5 Key Match-Ups vs. The New York Jets

The Patriots visit the Meadowlands this week for a match up against the New York Jets. Here are the five key match ups to watch in this game.

LT Mekhi Becton vs. Josh Uche: Becton has moved to left tackle in place of the injured Duane Brown. He is long and athletic but he will be matched up against Josh Uche most of this game. Uche is an explosive pass rusher who plays with good bend so he should give the longer Becton some problems. Especially on obvious passing downs.

Alijah Vera-Tucker vs. Matthew Judon: Tucker had to move to right tackle this week as part of the Jets offensive line shuffle. He has played tackle before but he is a guard by trade. This is a favorable match up for the Patriots. Judon’s length and explosiveness will give Vera-Tucker some problems. This is a match up the Patriots can exploit.

Mac Jones vs. The Jets Secondary: Tbis is the best secondary Jones has seen thus far. He needs to play smart and make good decisions today. He cannot force throws that are not there. The Jets will give him some room to operate because they play a lot of combinations coverages and a lot of man coverage. Jones has to be patient and take what the defense gives him.

Garrett Wilson vs. Christian Gonzalez: Match-up of the game. Zach Wilson will look to Wilson early and often. Gonzalez has the length and the athletic ability match up with Wilson and give him problems. The Patriots will play a lot of man coverage today so Gonzalez will be on an island a lot against one of the best receivers in the NFL.

Running backs vs. Patriots Backers/Safeties: The Jets will pound the ball a bunch today but they will also get their running backs the ball in the passing game as well. This match up will be important because the short passing game will be a big part of the offensive plan for both teams. The linebackers and safeties need to match up in the passing game. They cannot get out leveraged.
