With rumors swirling about his future, Belichick locked in on Kansas City

It comes as no surprise that Bill Belichick wouldn’t dare touch questions about his job security during his weekly Wednesday morning press conference.

After a report from Tome E. Curran on NBC Sports Boston on Tuesday night where he said he had heard the decision on Belichick’s future had been made after the ugly loss to the Colts in Germany, Belichick was asked early in the 15-minute session if it was his understanding that RKK didn’t want him back next season.

“Yeah, I’m getting ready for Kansas City. That’s what I’m doing,” he said.

Belichick was asked a bit later if he still wanted to continue coaching, a very generic question that surely he could answer, right?

No chance.

“Yeah, I’m getting ready for Kansas City,” Belichick sternly said again.

When pushed on it once more but a little differently – this time asked if he has had any conversations with the Krafts about his future – Belichick wouldn’t budge.

“Getting ready for Kansas City,” he added.

Players aren’t taking the bait either, as both Jahlani Tavai and Hunter Henry were asked about the report on Wednesday about an hour or two later. Henry said he’s locked in on this week while Tavai said even if all the rumors swirling are true, you’d never know it given how Belichick has gone about his business.

“I’m locked in on Kansas City, so I’m focused on them,” said Henry. “We’ve still got games to play. We still have good football teams to play too. We get to test what we’ve got against some really, really good football teams and that starts this week. We just take it week-by-week, attack each week. You have Kansas City, a great football team coming in and you have an opportunity to kind of match up against them. I know they’ll be ready to go, so we have to bring that same energy.”

“We don’t pay attention to the outside noise,” Tavai added. “We control what we can and at the moment, we can control how we approach today’s practice and that’s what I’m looking forward to…I’m not worried about (being back if Bill is back) because that’s so far in the future. All I can control right now is practicing today so that come Sunday, I perform at the highest level…if you guys are telling me that there’s so much stuff going on, that man hasn’t changed the way he approaches every day. He comes in every day and he’s making sure that we’re on top of our game. Especially another big week against the Chiefs.

“His attitude each and every week hasn’t changed.”
