Patriots defensive coordinator Terrell Williams is stepping away from the team for a few days to address a new health issue, head coach Mike Vrabel announced on Wednesday.

The decision comes after Williams has experienced a series of health-related incidents since joining the Patriots this offseason. According to Vrabel, this latest issue is “unforeseen” and unrelated to a previous medical scare that kept Williams away from the team during rookie minicamp in the spring.

Vrabel stated that Williams will undergo additional tests and that the team felt it was best for him to focus on his health. The coach did not disclose the specific nature of the issue or if Williams will be available for Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins.

This marks the third health concern for Williams since he was hired. In addition to the undisclosed medical issue in the spring, he also was treated for dehydration after collapsing during a training camp practice in July.

In Williams’s absence, inside linebackers coach Zak Kuhr, who also took over on-field duties during the spring, will be working with Vrabel and the rest of the defensive staff to prepare for the upcoming game.
