Webber Marx is one of the top quarterbacks in a loaded 2027 quarterback group in New England. We had the opportunity to catch up with Webber and got to know him as a player and as a person.
Here is our interview with Webber Marx.
NEFJ: Talk about your football journey. When did you start playing football? What attracted you to the sport?
WM: “My football journey has been a rollercoaster ride so far. I started playing tackle football in 2022 for The Rivers School and didn’t see the field much. This past fall was my first time playing live football at a varsity level. I grew up watching lots of football, which naturally developed my love for the sport.”
NEFJ: When did you start playing quarterback? What attracted you to the position?
WM: “I started playing quarterback in 2022. I wanted to be a quarterback for many reasons. I enjoy being in a leadership role, and continuing to develop the skills that are associated with it. Most importantly, I wanted to play quarterback because I knew it would be hard. I wanted to challenge myself and see how far I could go with it.”
NEFJ: How much of a role have your coaches and your family played in your development. Why do you think it is important to have that support?
WM: “I am beyond greatful for those who have helped me on my journey so far. I have been blessed with a supportive family, and coaches who understand me as both a player and a person. My dad played collegiate sports, and I’ve learned a lot from him with the goal of following his same path. Having a good support system is necessarry to succeed in many aspects of life. Being independent is one thing, but denying support and trying to fight a storm by yourself is another. I have surrounded myself with people who I’m certain would pick me up if I ever went down.”
NEFJ: When you’re not doing anything football related, what do you like to do off the field. Favorite hobbies, activities etc.
WM: “Although most of my free time is spent playing football, I am able to develop a great balance between my social life and work. When I am not playing football, I am either spending time with my family and friends, or doing some form of schoolwork. Going to a school like St. Paul’s, I am always busy and taught to stay productive.”
NEFJ: What is your go to meal? When you crave it, you need to have it.
WM: “Nothing beats a big steak after a long day of work.”
NEFJ: It is ten minutes before kickoff, what are you listening to get you hyped before you go out and play?
WM: “My father taught me to have a good balance of getting hyped, but not wasting energy. With that being said, I don’t need music to get hyped. When my entire week leads up to a single 48 minute game, adreneline races through me. I usually listen to folk country music before games to calm my mind. As a quarterback, I like to stay level headed and in control.”
NEFJ: What are your personal and team goals for the 2025 season and how do you go about accomplishing them?
WM: “This upcoming season, I want to elevate those around me and sustain the winning culture St. Paul’s football has developed. Ever since winning the John Papas Bowl, I have been chasing that rare feeling of excitement. My eyes are set on winning another NEPSAC Bowl Game, and continuing to improve my skills as a quarterback. The work has already started and is only getting more intense as the season inches closer. I look forward to facing the challenges that next season will present.”
